Porvasnik and Hardy Prevail at Prarie State

May 22, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, IL – On Sunday, 156 of the most talented junior golfers in the Midwest returned to The Den at Fox Creek for the second and final day of the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour's Prairie State Preview. Due to a severe weather warning and a three hour delay, the tournament was rain-shortened to 27-holes.

“Year after year this track proves to be one of the most challenging courses on our schedule,” said MAJGT director of operations Stephanie Schwartz. “Both the juniors and our staff looks forward to seeing how The Den at Fox Creek test our Tour juniors, and this year did not disappoint. Thank you to their entire staff for their hospitality and their continued support of elite junior golf in the Midwest.”

Nick Hardy (2014), a native of Northbrook, Illinois, birdied the seventh and eighth holes to fire a 35 and edge first-day leader Andrew Barrett (2014) and All-Midwest Team member Doug Ghim (2014) by two strokes to win his first-ever MAJGT Tour event. Hardy's previous Tour best included a tied for second place finish at the Windmill Open in Geneva, Illinois held earlier this month.

The break in action due to inclement weather caused additional challenges as players were unable to warm up or hit practice shots during the delay.

“With a three hour break, it was hard to come back and hit a lob wedge from 70 yards,” said Hardy. “I thought it was strong field, with a lot of great scores. I'm just looking forward to the next one.”

With a six stroke lead heading into Sunday's action, Jessica Porvasnik (2013) held on with a 41 on Sunday, to earn her second MAJGT victory of the season. Porvasnik, a native of Hinkley, Ohio, won the Spring Invitational at Foxfire GC in Lockbourne, Ohio in April. The win places Porvasnik in first place on the 2011 All-Midwest Team standings.

Finishing second, Katie Kim (2015) of Glencoe, Illinois managed an 81-37-118 to finish five strokes behind Porvasnik while Bing Singhsumalee (2015), winner of the Windmill Open, ended the tournament six strokes off the lead.

The Tour reconvenes June 8-9 for The Challenge at Aldeen to be held at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois. Registration for this event closes June 1.
