Mini-Tour Invitational Final Round Recap

Lake Bluff, Ill. – The 2011 Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Mini-Tour season wrapped up after two great days of golf. The 2011 Mini-Tour Invitational crowed a new champion as well as two repeat champions. The Mini-Tour year end points also provided eight juniors with fully exempt AJGA Junior All-Star status.

In the Girls 10-15 Division, Gianna Furrie (2017) held her first round lead to capture the championship by one stroke. The St. Charles, IL native carded a final round 81 to bring her tournament total to 159. Furrie’s second win of the season also helped her to secure the overall Mini-Tour Points to take home a MAJGT Champions bag. Runner-up this week was Riverwoods, IL resident Katie Kim (2015) who tallied a final round 79 to finish the tournament at 160. Rounding out the top three was Jordan Wolf (2014) who shot a final round 83, bringing her two-day tournament total to 165.

Varun Chopra (2017) of Champaign, IL claimed his third Boys 10-12 Division Mini-Tour tournament title in a row. Chopra and South Barrington, IL resident Thomas Calbi (2017) were in a tie for the lead after the first day but Chopra held his ground with a final round 73. Chopra’s round included 2 birdies on Nos. 1 and 17. The win also helped him to claim the Boys 10-12 Division Mini-Tour Points. Calbi finished his final round with a 76 to bring his tournament total to 148. Rounding out the top three was Winnetka, IL native Michael Adler (2017) who shot a final round 77 for a two-day total of 154.

The 2011 Mini-Tour Invitational champion for the Boys 13-15 Division was Jackson Bedford of Lake Forest, IL. Bedford, who represents the graduating class of 2014, came from behind to shoot a second round 75 and bring his tournament total to 152. His second round included three birdies on Nos. 4, 7, and 15. Liam Warner of Barrington, IL was the runner-up after carding a final round 75 to finish the tournament at 155. Completing the top three in tie for third were Sam Sicard (2015) and Russell Matos (2016), who finished the tournament at 156. Matos was the overall Boys 13-15 points champion with a season total 460 points.
