January 8, 2010
The Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) announced today that the 30th Annual Chick Evans Junior Amateur Championship will become the largest "major" on its schedule by increasing the event field size and status by including a girls' division. The event will be contested July 26 through July 30th at Steeple Chase Golf Club in Mundelien, IL.
This addition of the girls' division will replace the Girls Match Play Championship on the IJGA's calendar, and the division will follow the same eligibility and qualifying rules applied for the boys' divison. Girls ages 18 and under can attempt to qualify for a place in the field, those players that qualified for the Match Play portion of the 2009 Girls Match Play Championship automatically earn an exemption into the 2010 championship field. Those wishing to qualify for the event can do by participating in a qualifier staged concurrently with the Maggie Rogers Memorial event at Inverness Country Club on July 19th.
This event is recognized by the American Junior Golf Association and Junior Golf Scoreboard. It was named in honor of Charles E. "Chick" Evans, Jr., who grew up in Chicago in the early 1900s and was the first amateur to win the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in the same year.
