Youth Development Program
Beginning at the age of six, the IJGA provides entry into the game with its Youth Development Program (YDP). Formatted into three individual age divisions of 6-9, 10-11, and 12-13, the YDP is designed to meet the challenges of juniors looking to gain an education in tournament golf. This level of programming blends rules and etiquette, instruction, and competition in an effort to provide a well-rounded development experience.
IJGA members in the YDP 6-9 age division play 9-hole events on par-3 courses. Immediately following each playing opportunity, a pass/fail quiz is given. At this level, no awards are given for quiz or event achievements but each competitor is given a participation gift and certificate of competition.
As members enter or reach the 10-11 YDP division, they are given the chance to play nine or 18-holes. In order to play 18 holes, juniors must meet a predetermined scoring requirement. Players are also asked to take a pass/fail quiz following play.
The 12-13 age division of the YDP is intended to serve as a platform of transition to the Playing Member Division.
