LEMONT, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association hosted the season’s final Players Challenge at Cog Hill which ended Tuesday after two days of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Daniel Tanaka (2020) of Wilmette, Ill., took top honors. Meanwhile, in the Girls Division, Rosemarie Bundy (2017) of West Chicago, Ill., took the top spot on the leaderboard.
The Players Challenge #5 was a 36-hole; stroke play event competed on Course 3 at Cog Hill G&CC. The Boys Division played the par 72 course from 6,327 yards while the Girls Division played the course from 5,530 yards.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
In the Boys Division, Tanaka carded an impressive final round of 3-under-par 69 to move his tournament total to 3-under-par 144. Carding five birdies and 11 pars during the final round gave Tanka his first Players Challenge victory.
In tie for second were Drew Miles (2016) of Winnetka, Ill., and Andrew Abel (2017) of Geneva, Ill., each carding a two-day total of 1-under-par 143. Coming in fourth was Devin Johnson (2017) of Geneva, Ill., with a tournament total of even-par 144. Rounding out the top-5 was William Nummy (2018) of Winnetka, Ill., who finished the tournament with at 1-over-par 145.
In the Girls Division, Bundy carded an even-par 72 in the final round to move her tournament total to 8-over-par 152. Bundy played the back nine 2-under-par during the second round to take home her second IJGA victory this year.
Coming in runner-up was Haeri Lee (2018) of Buffalo Grove, Ill., with a two-day total of 10-over-par 154. Rounding out the top-3 was Nicole Jordan (2018) of St. Charles, Ill., who finished the tournament with at 11-over-par 155.
As the 2016 IJGA Summer Season comes to a close the 2016 Player of the Year Championship will be contested on Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Highlands of Elgin in Elgin, Ill.
