MARENGO, ILL. – The first round of the Blackstone Classic came to a close this afternoon for the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour. Austin Niesel (2015) of Elgin, Ill., fired a 5-under-par 67 and has a 3 shot lead in the Boys Division. Frankie Saban (2015) of Orland Park, Ill., leads the Girls Division after carding a 2-over-par 73 in round one.

The 2015 MAJGT Blackstone Classic is a 36-hole stroke play competition featuring 64 junior golfers representing Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Indiana. This tournament featured the par-72 Blackstone Golf Club. The Boys Division played from 6,450 yards and the Girls Division played from 5,724 yards.

Niesel’s first round consisted of five birdies and 12 pars. Justin Lenzini (2016) of Algonquin, Ill., and Patrick Akaniroj (2018) of Willow Springs, Ill., are currently tied for second place, three shots of the lead.

In the Girls Division, Saban carded one birdie and 14 pars during the first round. Reena Sulkar (2017) of Barrington Hills, Ill., Jessica Lee (2017) of Oak Brook, Ill. and Amy Hong (2016) of Northbrook, Ill., are all tied for second after shooting 5-over-par 76.

The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
