HOMEWOOD, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Second City Classic concluded Thursday after two days of competitive golf. Taking champion honors in the Boys Division was Connor Polender (2018) of Lake Bluff, Ill. In the Girls Division, Roshannah Gaur (2018) of Hinsdale, Ill., took top honors.

The Second City Classic is a 36-hole, stroke play event contested on the par-70 Ravisloe Country Club. The field featured 126 junior golfers ages 12-18 hailing from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. The Boys Division played the course from 6,321 yards, while the Girls Division played from 5,703 yards.

The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.

Polender was able to hold onto his lead through both rounds, after carding a 2-under-par 68 during the first round. His first round scorecard included six birdies and nine pars. Polender’s second round moved his tournament total to 1-under-par 139. This was his first MAJGT victory.

Coming in runner-up was Samuel Anderson (2017) of Stoughton, Wis., who finished the tournament at 3-over-par 143. In third place was Jack Vercautren (2018) of Naperville, Ill., with a 5-over-par 145 two-day total. In fourth was Ethan Neumer (2018) of South Beloit, Ill., with a 6-over-par 146 total. Rounding out the top five was Tyler Roat (2018) of Lockport, Ill., who finished with a 7-over-par 147.

A notable final round included a 3-under-par 67 from Connor Buggy (2019) of Park Ridge, Ill.

In the Girls Division, Gaur carded consistent rounds of 73-73 to finish the tournament with a 6-over-par 146 tournament total. This is Gaur’s second MAJGT victory, her first coming in 2015 at the Championship at Illinois State University.

Finishing the event runner-up was Hadley Moritz (2018) of Wheaton, Ill., with a tournament total of 9-over-par 149. Rounding out the top 3 were Penelope Tir (2019) of Winnetka, Ill., and Rachel Rhee (2018) of Glencoe, Ill., who each finished the two days with a 10-over-par tournament total.

The MAJGT heads to Harborside International June 13-15, for the Championship at Harborside.
