BARRINGTON, Ill. – The 49th Illinois State Junior Amateur hosted by the Illinois Junior Golf Association began Tuesday at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, Ill. At the conclusion of the first round Luke Armbrust (2018) of Wheaton, Ill., sits atop the leaderboard after carding a 2-under-par 69.

The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA) is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. The field, made up of 156 male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the first round on the par 71 course from 6,587 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

This is Luke Armbrust fourth appearance at the ISJA Championship, his first being in 2015. His best finish at ISJA came in 2016, when he finished tied for fifth. L. Armbrust’s first round included three birdies, which all came on the back nine. He will continue his golf career this fall at the University of Illinois.

Currently in second is Dominic Scaletta (2020) of Inverness, Ill., who carded a 1-under-par 70. Sitting in third is Joseph Harrigan (2018) of Highland Park, Ill., after carding an even-par 71 during the first round. Six players are currently in fourth place after carding a 1-over-par 72, Nick Armbrust (2019) of Wheaton, Ill., Sean Curran (2021) of New Lenox, Ill., Tyler Isenhart (2019) of Geneva, Ill., Alex Kim (2019) of Lincolnshire, Ill., Mac McClear (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., and Jack Vercautren (2018) of Naperville, Ill.

The second round of the 49th ISJA is set to begin Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. off of Nos. 1 and 10 at Makray Memorial GC.
