ITASCA, Ill. – Matches came to a close Wednesday evening as the pairings for the Girls Championship Match and the Boys Semi-Finals were decided for the 40th Chick Evans Junior Amateur. The following recaps the day’s Matches:
Girls Quarter Finals:
Match 1: Katherine Lemke (1) vs. Molly Lyne (8) – Lemke took an early lead going 1up through No. 2 before Lyne brought the Match back to All-Square on No. 3. Lemke took the lead again on No. 5 and held the lead finishing the Match on No. 16, 3 and 2.
Match 2: Catie Nekola (4) vs. Kendall Farm (5) – Nekola went 1-up on the first hole, moving her lead to 3-up by No. 6. The Match made the turn with Nekola 2up. Nekola defeated Farm 5 and 3.
Match 3: Maria Perakis (2) vs. Lisa Copeland (7) – Copeland held the lead in the Match through No. 11 when it returned to All-Square. Perakis went 1-up on No. 16 but ultimately Copeland defeated Perakis on the 19th hole.
Match 4: Elyssa Abdullah (3) vs. Symantha Rohwedder (6) – The Match remained All-Square through No. 4, on No. 5 Abdullah took the lead. The Match ended with Abdullah defeating Rohwedder 6 and 5.
Boys Round of 16:
Match 1: Thomas Baker (1) vs. Weston Walker (16) – The Match started off All-Square through the first hole, but Baker took the lead on No. 2. At the turn, the Match had returned to All-Square. Baker ultimately defeated Walker 4 and 3.
Match 2: Matthew Buckley (8) vs. Will Stewart (9) – Stewart took the lead on No. 1, moving his lead to 3-up through No. 8. Stewart defeated Buckley 4 and 3.
Match 3: Samuel Mortell (4) vs. Jake Wiktor (13) – Mortell took the lead on No. 6, moving his lead to 4-up on No. 13 before Wiktor brought the Match back to All-Square on No. 18 to force extra holes. Witkor defeated Mortell on the 22nd hole to win the Match.
Match 4: Noah Zyung (5) vs. Zachary Mulhearn (12) – Mulhearn held the lead through No. 3, before Zyung brought the Match back to All-Square on No. 4. Zyung then took the lead moving to 5-up on No. 13, ultimately defeating Mulhearn 5 and 4.
Match 5: Dominic Scaletta (2) vs. Jason Gordon (15) – Scaletta opened the Match with a pair of birdies to go 2-up on the second hole. He held his lead, moving it to 3-up on No. 13. Scaletta defeated Gordon 4 and 3.
Match 6: Will Caronchi (7) vs. Tyler Irwin (10) – Caronchi went 1-up on the first hole, but Irwin brought the Match back to All-Square on No. 4. Caronchi took the lead again on the fifth hole, moving his lead to 4-up on No. 8. He defeated Irwin 4 and 3.
Match 7: Patrick Adler (3) vs. Paulius Malcius (14) – Adler took the lead on No. 7, moving his lead to 2-up on No. 8. The Match ended on No. 17 with Adler defeating Malcius 2 and 1.
Match 8: John Wild (6) vs. Cooper Watt (11) – The Match started off All-Square through the first hole, but Wild took the lead on No. 2. Wild defeated Watt 8 and 6.
Girls Semi-Finals:
Match 1: Katherine Lemke vs. Catie Nekola – Nekola went 1-up on the first hole but Lemke brought the Match back to All-Square on No. 2, and took the lead on No. 3. She went back to 1-up on No. 8 before the Match returned to All-Square on No. 16. The Match was finally decided after 20 holes with Nekola defeated Lemke.
Match 2: Lisa Copeland vs. Elyssa Abdullah – Abdullah took the lead on No. 1 and held on to it for the rest of the Match, going 4-up on No. 12. The Match ended on No. 16 with Abdullah defeated Copeland 3 and 2.
Boys Quarter Finals:
Match 1: Thomas Baker vs. Will Stewart – The Match remained All-Square through No. 2. Stewart took the lead on No. 3 and held the lead through No. 14, with the Match returning to All-Square on No. 15. Stewart went 1-up on No. 18 to defeat Baker.
Match 2: Jake Wiktor vs. Noah Zyung – The Match remained All-Square through No. 4, with Zyung taking the lead on No. 5. He held his 1-up lead, going 2-up on No. 13. The Match ended on No. 18 with Zyung going 2-up.
Match 3: Dominic Scaletta vs. Will Caronchi – The Match returned to All-Square on No. 8, and Scaletta took the lead at the turn. He ultimately defeated Caronchi 2 and 1.
Match 4: Patrick Adler vs. John Wild – Adler took the lead on No. 1 and held it through the turn, going 4-up on No. 15 to defeat Wild 4 and 3.
