ITASCA, Ill. – The cut has been made at the 42nd Chick Evans Junior Amateur Championship at Itasca Country Club. Entering Match Play, Charlie Kulwin (2022) of Chicago, Ill., is the number one seed in the Boys Division; while in the Girls Division, Katharine Marshall (2023) of Elburn, Ill., finished atop the Stroke Play leaderboard.
The Chick Evans Junior Amateur (CEJA) is the highest level of IJGA competition and is intended to highlight the best players in the state while giving players the opportunity to earn national recognition. This championship is open to boys and girls ages 12-18 who have earned exempt status. The field will play 36 holes of Stroke Play before a cut is made for Match Play. The low thirty-two (32) boys and sixteen (16) girls will advance to Match Play.
Kulwin finished with a tournament total of 4-under-par 140 after carding back to back rounds of 2-under-par 70. His two rounds included ten birdies.
Thirty-one players finished at 6-over-par or better. At 7-over-par, there was a five-for-one playoff for the final spot in match play. Tadgh Burke (2024) of Lake Bluff, Ill. outlasted the other four in a six-hole playoff.
In the Girls Division, Marshall finished the Stroke Play rounds with an even-par 144 total. She fired eight birdies during stroke play, five of which came in the second round.
The cut in the Girls Division was made at ten-over-par.
The first and second rounds of Match Play will take place on Wednesday, July 20, beginning at 7:00 AM CST at Itasca Country Club.
