NEW LENOX, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Sanctuary Open concluded Sunday after two days of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Matthew James (2019) of Orland Park, Ill., earned champion honors. Sarah Arnold (2019) of St. Charles, Ill., took top honors in the Girls Division.

The Sanctuary Open, which is the longest running event on the MAJGT schedule, featured 72 junior golfers ages 12-18 from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The Boys Division played the par 72 Sanctuary Golf Course from 6,818 yards, while the Girls Division played the course as a par 73 from 5,788 yards.

The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.

James, a senior at Carl Sandburg HS, was neck-and-neck with runner-up Jack Crawshaw (2019) of Winnetka, Ill., after both boys carded a 3-under-par 69 during the first round. James took the lead on Sunday, birding Nos. 6, 7 and 8, and went on to shoot a 5-under-par 67 during the final round, finishing the tournament with a 8-under-par 136 tournament total. This is James’ first MAJGT victory, his previous best finish was in 2018 at the Autumn Open.

Crawshaw finished the final round with a 1-over-par 73, to finish the tournament with a 2-under-par 142 total. In third place was Ryan Milton (2021) of Elburn, Ill., who carded a 1-over-par 145 tournament total. Finishing in fourth place was Graham Head (2022) of Glen Ellyn, Ill., with a 3-over-par 147 tournament total. Rounding out the top five was Ian Roach (2020) of Hennepin, Ill., who carded a 4-over-par 148 total.

In the Girls Division, Arnold also carded a 5-under-par 68 during the final round, which included five birdies on the front nine. Arnold, who has committed to play collegiate golf at Western Kentucky University finished the two days with a 6-under-par 140 tournament total. This was Arnold’s third MAJGT victory, her other two victories include the 2018 Golf Club of Illinois Open and the 2018 Girls Championship at Royal Hawk.

Coming in runner-up was Emily Chang (2021) of Chicago, who carded a 5-over-par 151 tournament total. Rounding out the top three were Sunbi Kwon (2021) of Orland Park, Ill., and Jessica Guiser (2024) of Hartland, Wis., who each carded a 6-over-par 152 tournament total.

The next stop on the MAJGT schedule is the North Shore Open at Wilmette GC on April 13-14.
