BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s summer season concluded with the Twin Cities Classic on August 2-3. In the Boys Division, Alex Eickhoff (2020) of Hillsboro, Ill., earned his first MAJGT victory. In the Girls Division, Arya Gadekar (2018) of Bloomington, Ind., took top honors after finishing the tournament five strokes head of the runner-up.
The Twin Cities Classic was a 36-hole, Stroke Play competition. The first round was contested at Weibring GC, while the final round was played at The Den at Fox Creek. This event featured junior golfers ages 12-18, as well as a Women’s College Division. This event was nationally recognized by Junior Golf Scoreboard and the Boys Division had the opportunity to earn AJGA PBE Stars.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Eickhoff carded an opening round of 4-under-par 67, before carding a 1-under-par 71 during the final round to bring his tournament total to 5-under-par 138. Over the two days, Eickhoff carded 10 birdies. This was his first MAJGT victory.
Coming in runner-up was Duane (DJ) Nelson (2019) of Champaign, Ill., who carded a 3-over-par 146 tournament total. In third place was Ian Roach (2020) of Hennepin, Ill., with a tournament total of 4-over-par 147. In fourth was Anthony Ruthey (2019) of Port Byron, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 6-over-par 149 total. Rounding out the top five, after carding a 7-over-par 150, was Patrick Adler (2021) of Winnetka, Ill.
In the Girls Division, Gadekar carded an opening round of 5-over-par 77, followed by a 3-over-par 75, which gave her a tournament total of 8-over-par 152. Over the course of the two days, Gadekar carded three birdies. This was her first MAJGT victory.
In second place was Alaina Bowie (2020) of Mahomet, Ill., who carded a 13-over-par 157 tournament total. Rounding out the top three was Riley Sullivan (2018) of St. Charles, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 15-over-par total.
In the Women’s College Division, Rachel Leucuta of Downers Grove, Ill., took top honors after carding a 12-over-par 155 tournament total.
