FONTANA, Wis. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Lake Geneva Championship concluded Wednesday after 54 holes of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Bradley Goldstein (2019) of Highland Park, Ill., took home his first MAJGT victory. In the Girls Division, Penelope Tir (2019) of Winnetka, Ill., finished atop the leaderboard.
The Lake Geneva Championship was a 54-hole, Stroke Play competition which was contested at the Abbey Springs Golf Course. The field featured 84 junior golfers ages 12-18. The Boys Division played the par 72 course from 6,649 yards, while the Girls Division played the course from 5,522 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Goldstein carded a 1-under-par 71 during the opening round and followed that with a 4-over-par 76 second round. His final-round 2-over-par 74 included three birdies. Goldstein’s 5-over-par 221 tournament total gave him a seven stroke lead. This was Goldstein’s first MAJGT victory, his best finish came earlier this year at the Golf Club of Illinois Open, where he finished tied for sixth.
Coming in runner-up was Blake Wisdom (2019) of Lake Geneva, Wis., who carded a 12-over-par 228 tournament total. In third place was Sam Davis (2019) of Lake Forest, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 13-over-par 229 total. Sean Markham (2020) of Barrington, Ill., came in fourth place after carding a 14-over-par 230. Rounding out the top five was Caleb Poindexter (2018) of LeRoy, Ill., who carded a 16-over-par 232.
In the Girls Division, P. Tir carded a 17-over-par 233 tournament total, which included back-to-back rounds of 1-over-par 77 during the second and final rounds. Her opening round was a 7-over-par 79. This was P. Tir’s fourth MAJGT victory.
Coming in second place was Gillian Filer (2019) of Clarendon Hills, Ill., who carded a 27-over-par tournament total. Rounding out the top three was Trinity Corwin (2018) of Schaumburg, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 37-over-par 253 total.
