This page contains information on the “Better People Through Junior Golf” Scholarship program, in memory of John and Robert Kellman. Students and parents should read the entire page thoroughly, including the program description and general instructions for filling out the application.

Here are a few reminders:

  • Only members of the Illinois Junior Golf Association entering their freshman year of college this fall are eligible. APPLICANTS MUST REGISTER FOR AND COMPETE IN THE KELLMAN MEMORIAL STROKE PLAY (JULY 5, 2023) IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SCHOLARSHIP.
  • Only applications made on this official Application Form will be accepted.

Scholarship Overview

  • Award recipients will be selected based upon the following criteria: high school grade point average, ACT scores, and responses to three (3) questions.
  • The “Better People Through Junior Golf” Scholarship will award up to two (2) $1,500 scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • All scholarship award checks will be made payable to the applicant and his/her educational institution.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants for this academic scholarship:

  • Are 2023 Playing Members of the Illinois Junior Golf Association
  • Have demonstrated superior leadership in community or school-related volunteer or club activity
  • Have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning for the upcoming academic year (verification required)

How to Apply

  • High School transcript
  • Copy of your highest ACT scores
  • One Letter of recommendation from a club, association or volunteer organization staff or board leader you have been involved with
  • One page essay response to the following three (3) questions: What are your future educational, professional and personal goals? What life lessons have you learned from golf? How has the game of golf made you a better person? Please describe your volunteer and/or community involvement in depth and how that involvement has made you a better person.
  • All applications must be submitted by June 15, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
