BARRINGTON, Ill. – The second round of the 49th Illinois State Junior Amateur hosted by the Illinois Junior Golf Association concluded Wednesday at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, Ill. Luke Armbrust (2018) of Wheaton, Ill., continues to sit atop the leaderboard after moving his tournament total to a 3-under-par 139 tournament total.
The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA) is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. The field, made up of 156 male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the first round on the par 71 course from 6,587 yards.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
Armbrust, a University of Illinois commit, carded a second round score of 1-under-par 70, allowing him to stay one shot ahead going into the final round. During the second round, L. Armbrust carded a bogey-free score, which included one birdie.
Three players carded under-par rounds to move into second, Tyler Isenhart (2019) of Geneva, Ill., Tommy Kuhl (2018) of Morton, Ill., and Jack Paeglow (2020) of DeKalb, Ill., who each enter the final round with a 2-under-par 140 tournament total. Currently in fifth place is Sean Curran (2021) of New Lenox, Ill., who carded a two-day total of 1-over-par 143. In sixth, after each carding a 2-over-par 144, are Garrett Tighe (2019) of Algonquin, Ill., Ben Tyrrell (2018) of Edwardsville, Ill., and Mac McClear (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill.
In ninth was Carl Christiansen (2018) of Naperville, Ill., who finished the second round with a 3-over-par 145 total. Rounding out the top ten were Nick Armbrust (2019) of Wheaton, Ill., Dominic Scaletta (2020) of Inverness, Ill., Connor Polender (2018) of Lake Bluff, Ill., and Kevin O’Regan (2021) of Northbrook, Ill., who each enter the final round at 5-over-par 147.
The final round of the 49th ISJA is set to begin Thursday, at 8:00 a.m. off of No. 1 at Makray Memorial GC.
