Barrington, Ill. – The cut was made at the Illinois Junior Golf Association’s 52nd Illinois State Junior Amateur. Mason Minkel (2021) of Pekin, Ill., took the lead during the second round. The cut line was a 11-over-par 153 two day total.

The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA), also known as the Slovitt Cup, is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. The field, made up of male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the second round on the par 71 course from 6900 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

Minkel currently sits atop the leaderboard with a 3-under-par 139 total. He carded a 4-under-par 67 during the second round, which included five birdies. All five birdies came on the back nine, for a total of 5-under-par 31.

Currently in second place is Charlie Creamean (2021) of Winnetka, Ill with a total of 1-under-par 141. In a tie for third place are first-round leader Kevin O’Regan (2021) of Northbrook, Ill., and Dylan Josephson (2022) of Vernon Hills, Ill.,  with even-par 142 totals. Rounding out the top five in a tie for fifth place are Jack Inabnit (2022) of Clarendon Hills, Ill., Mac McGurn (2021) of Glenview, Ill., and Nikko Ganas (2021) of Schaumburg, Ill., who are entering the final round at 1-over-par 143.

The final round of the 52nd ISJA will begin at 8:00 a.m. of No. 1 at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
