BARRINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association’s 52nd Illinois State Junior Amateur Championship began Tuesday, June 29. Kevin O’Regan (2021) of Northbrook, Ill., currently sits atop the leaderboard after carding a 3-under-par 68 during the first round.

The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA), also known as the Slovitt Cup, is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. The field, made up of male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the first round on the par 71 course from 6900 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

O’Regan, a University of Notre Dame commit, carded four birdies and one eagle during the first round. This is his fifth appearance at the ISJA Championship. In each of his previous appearances, O’Regan has made the cut. His best finishes were in 2018 & 2020, where he finished tied fourteenth.

Currently in 2nd is Charlie Creamean (2021) of Winnetka, Ill., who carded a 2-under-par 69. Rounding out the top five with a 1-under-par 70 is: Grant Roscich (2024) of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Eli Myers (2023) of Northbrook, Ill.; and Matthew Kramer (2022) of Downers Grove, Ill.

The second round of the 52nd ISJA is set to begin Wednesday, June 30, at 7:30 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10 at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
