BARRINGTON, Ill. – The second round of the 48th Illinois State Junior Amateur concluded Thursday morning after weather forced play to be suspended Wednesday. Immediately following the second round the field was cut to the low 51 players with players carding 15-over-par 157 two-day total or better making the cut. Entering the final round in the top spot on the leaderboard is Brendan O’Reilly (2017) of Hinsdale, Ill.

The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA) is a 54-hole, stroke play event with a cut to the low 50 and ties after 36 holes. The field, which is made up of 156 male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the par 71 course from 6,902 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

O’Reilly, who is headed to the University of Illinois this fall, carded an opening round of 1-under-par 70, followed by a second round of even-par 71 sits atop the leaderboard entering the final round. This is O’Reilly’s third appearance at this prestigious event, his previous appearances coming in 2013 and 2014, where he took champion honors.

Currently two-shots back at 1-over-par 143, are Ben Tyrrell (2018) of Edwardsville, Ill., and Matthew Wingren (2017) of Hinsdale, Ill. In fourth is Lawrence Ting (2018) of Westmont, Ill., with a 2-over-par 144 tournament total. In a tie for sixth, at 5-over-par 147 is Tyler Isenhart (2019) of Geneva, Ill., and Ethan Farnam (2017) of Crystal Lake, Ill.

Rounding out the top 10 were Mac McClear (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., Connor Polender (2018) of Lake Bluff, Ill., and Dallas Koth (2018) of Bloomington, Ill., who each carded a 6-over-par tournament total.

The cut was made and the final round will be a 10:15 a.m. shotgun at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
