ADDISON, Ill.— 81 boys and 31 girls competed in the two-round MAJGT tournament at The Preserve at Oak Meadows on June 10-11. Dru Devata (68-73–141) of Clarendon Hills won first place for the boys and Oak Brook native Toral Bhatt (75-70–145) took home the trophy for the girls.
THE TOURNAMENT:
- MAJGT at The Preserve at Oak Meadows is a 36-hole stroke play event spanning two days. The contest is for juniors ages 12-18.
- Par for the course was 72. The boys played the course as 6,863 yards and the girls played a 5,729 yard track.
THE BOYS’ LEADERBOARD:
- Devata was four over par in round one and one over in round two, resulting in a two-round score of three under par. He won by one stroke.
- Charlie Gilligan (71-71–142) of Wheaton took second with a two-round score of two under par. He posted a score of one under during both rounds.
- Hailing from Glen Ellyn, Owen Coniaris (76-68–144) went four over on day one and came back with a score of four under in round two to finish the tournament even with par. He took third place overall.
- Tyler Samaan (75-70–145), an Elgin resident, tied for fourth with a 36-hole score of plus one. She shot three over in round one and two under in round two.
- Hinsdale native Jacob Gupta (71-74–145) rounded out the top five, shooting one under par and two over par to finish tied for fourth with a score of one over par.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Coniaris, Jimmy Doherty, Gilligan, Ryan Kalaway, and Tyler Short each eagled a par five during the tournament.
- Devata led the field with 10 total birdies. Daniel Chang made nine total birdies, seven of which came during round two.
- Eric Brown parred 27 out of the 36 holes and Nick Ratini made par on 26 out of 36 holes.
- Beckett Jones had the longest birdie streak, going one under par on holes three through six during round one.
- Brown went 17 straight holes bogey-free.
THE GIRLS’ LEADERBOARD:
- Bhatt went three over par in round one before firing off a 70, or two under par, during round two to move into first place. She was the only girl to shoot under par in a single round and won by five strokes.
- Hinsdale native Amelia Tan (73-77–150) took second with scores of one over par and five over par. Her 36-hole score was six over par.
- Mayan Covarrubias (79-77–156) of North Riverside rounded out the top three, putting up scores of seven above par and five above par for a 36-hole score of 12 above par.
- Bolingbrook’s Taylor Miller (82-81–163) tied for fourth place with a score of 10 over par in round one and nine over par in round two. Her two-round score was 19 over par.
- Lindsey Huang (79-84–163) from Northbrook also tied for fourth with a 36-hole score of 19 over. She shot 10 over in round one and 12 over in round two.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Bhatt led the pack with six total birdies. Covarrubias and Tan each made five total birdies.
- Bhatt made par on 23 of the 36 holes. Tan parred 21 holes and Covarrubias parred 19.
- Abby Rieskse made back-to-back birdies on holes three and four during round one.
- Bhatt and Rheagan Boucher each had a bogey-free streak lasting nine straight holes.
