HOMEWOOD, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Donald Ross Classic concluded with two champions named. Jackson Bussell (2019) of Lincolnshire, Ill., earned top honors in the Boys Division. In the Girls Division, Sarah Arnold (2019) of St. Charles, Ill., defeated Molly Lyne (2020) of Cary, Ill., in a sudden death playoff to take champion honors.
The Donald Ross Classic was a 36 hole, Stroke Play competition. The field featured 96 junior golfers ages 12-18 from Illinois, Indiana and Massachusetts. The Boys Division played the par 70 Ravisloe CC from 6,323 yards, while the Girls Division played the course from 5,701 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Bussell carded a final round of even-par 70 which included five birdies which brought his tournament total to 2-over-par 142. This was Bussell’s first MAJGT victory.
Coming in runner-up was Benjamin Sluzas (2021) of Lockport, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 4-over-par 144 total. In a tie for third were Zachary Mulhearn (2021) of Wheaton, Ill., and William Marshall (2019) of Elburn, Ill., who each finished the tournament with a 5-over-par 145 total. Rounding out the top five was John Stillman (2019) of Oak Lawn, Ill., who carded a 6-over-par 146 tournament total.
In the Girls Division, Arnold and Lyne each carded a 5-over-par 145 tournament total which forced a sudden death playoff. This was Arnold’s second MAJGT victory this season and she is headed to Western Kentucky University this fall.
Rounding out the top three was Alaina Bowie (2020) of Mahomet, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 9-over-par 149 tournament total.
