MEDINAH, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association hosted the 11th edition of the Medinah Country Shrine Jr. Invitational Monday at Medinah Country Club. In the Boys Division, Pete Kuhl of Morton, Ill., carded a tournament total of 4-over-par 148. In the Girls Division, Lauren Beaudreau of Lemont, Ill., held on to her first round lead to finish the tournament at 2-under-par 142.

The 2016 Medinah Country Shrine Jr. Invitational is a 36-hole stroke play competition held on two courses at Medinah Country Club. The Boys Division, comprised of 96 junior golfers from Illinois, played the famous par-72, Course 3 from 6,904 yards. The Girls Division which included 38 junior golfers from Illinois, played the par-72 Course 1 from 5,622 yards.

“This event would not be possible without the generous support from the Medinah Board of Directors and their members, especially our event host Ed Malysiak, who allow us to take over their facilities for the day,” said Jordan Abdel-Haq, IJGA executive director. “It is an incredible opportunity to host an event at such a historic venue and to give back to such a worth cause.”

In the Boys Division, Kuhl carded rounds of 73 and 75 en route to his first place finish. Seven birdies and 19 pars on the day gave him a one stroke lead.

In second place was Billy Walker of Algonquin, Ill., who finished the tournament at 5-over-par 149. In third was Ben Tyrrell of Edwardsville, Ill., who carded a tournament total of 6-over-par 150. Rounding out the top five was Ethan Farnam of Crystal Lake, Ill., Jackson Bussell of Lincolnshire, Ill., and Mac McClear of Hinsdale, Ill., who each carded a tournament total of 7-over-par 151.

In the Girls Division, Beaudreau, who took home both low round honors, carded a total of six birdies and 27 pars during the two rounds. Her best finish at this event previously was T3 in 2015.

One shot back from the leader was Penelope Tir of Winnetka, Ill., who carded a tournament total of 1-under-par 143. Tir tied Beaudreau in the second round, both carding a 1-under-par 71. Rounding out the top three in the Girls Division was Caroline Smith of Inverness, Ill., who finished with a 4-over-par 148.
