BARRINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association’s 53rd Illinois State Junior Amateur Championship began Tuesday, June 28. Grant Roscich (2024) of Glen Ellyn, Ill. and Dylan Drogemuller (2023) of Frankfort, Ill. currently share the lead after carding even-par 71s during the first round.
The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA), also known as the Slovitt Cup, is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. The field, made up of male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the first round on the par 71 course from 6900 yards.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
Roscich carded three birdies and one eagle during the first round. This is his fourth appearance at the ISJA Championship. He has previously made two of three cuts, with his best finish in 2021, where he finished tied third.
Drogemuller’s even-par 71 included four birdies and four bogeys, with nines of 36-35. This is his first appearance at the ISJA Championship.
Rounding out the top five with a 1-over-par 72 is: Salil Khanduja (2024) of Naperville, Ill.; Alexander Creamean (2023) of Winnetka, Ill.; and John Creamean (2024) of Winnetka, Ill.
The second round of the 53rd ISJA is set to begin Wednesday, June 29, at 7:30 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10 at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
