URBANA, Ill. — The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Illinois Classic came to a close this afternoon at Stone Creek Golf Club. In the Boys division, Callaway Smith (2017) of Effingham, IL carded a two-day total of 149 winning on the first playoff hole against Michael Moser (2017). In the Girls Division, Grace Curran (2019) of New Lenox, IL won with a two-day total of 147. In the College Division, Grace Kil of Arlington Heights, IL won with a two-day total of 158.
The 2016 MAJGT Illinois Classic was a 36-hole stroke-play competition featuring 49 junior and 6 college players representing Illinois, Michigan, Indiana,and Florida. This tournament featured the par 72 Stone Creek Golf Club. The Boys Division played from 6,696 yards, the Girls division played from 5,975 yards, and the College Girls division played from 6,194 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest, ages 12-18, and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its’ events providing national exposure.
Smith followed his even par round on day one with a 77 on day two. Throughout the tournament, Smith recorded six birdies to help claim his victory. After 36 holes, Smith and Moser were tied at a total of 149, Smith ended up winning on the first playoff hole.
Low one day score for the tournament was a 69 by Ethan Lee of Buffalo Grove, IL. He recorded five birdies to shoot 3-under-par on day one.
Curran won the Girls Division shooting 74 on day one and 73 on day two. She pushed ahead to win after being tied for first on day one. Haeri Lee of Buffalo Grove, IL came in second place for the Girls division after she recorded a 5 over par 149. In third place was Stephanie Mroz, of Wood Dale, IL. Carding seven birdies for the tournament, she shot a single day low score of 71 on day two.
In the College Women Division, the day one leader, Kil followed up her 77 with an 81 for a tournament total of 158. In second place of the College Division by just one stroke at 159, was Frankie Saban of Orland Park, IL.
The MAJGT next tournament is the Championship at Royal Hawk on June 27-29th in St. Charles, IL.
