LEMONT, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s Championship at Ruffled Feathers concluded Wednesday after three days of competitive golf. In the Boys Division, Marcus Smith (2020) of Rockford, Ill., took top honors after finishing the tournament with a 5-under-par 211 tournament total. In the Girls Division, Brianne Bolden (2019) of Mokena, Ill., earned champion honors after carding a 4-over-par 220 tournament total.
The Championship at Ruffled Feathers was a 54-hole, Stroke Play competition contested on the par 72 Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. The field featured 71 junior golfers ages 12-18 from Illinois and Florida. The Boys Division played the course from 6,899 yards, while the Girls Division played from 6,014 yards.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
Smith carded a 2-under-par 70 during the first round to take an early lead in the Boys Division. His first round included an eagle and three birdies. Smith’s second round included five birdies which came during the back nine, including four-in-a-row on Nos. 13, 14, 15 and 16. His second round was a 4-under-par 68. During the final round, Smith carded a 1-over-par 73, bringing his tournament total to 5-under-par 211. This is Smith’s second MAJGT victory in 2018, the first came at the Whitetail Ridge Open.
Coming in runner-up was Justin Seymour (2018) of Wheaton, Ill., who carded a 4-over-par 220 tournament total. In third was Aaron Chong (2020) of Glenview, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 10-over-par 226. In fourth place was Maxwell Rockrohr (2020) of Willow Springs, Ill., after he carded a 13-over-par 229. Rounding out the top five was Johnathan Winters (2020) of Clarendon Hills, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 14-over-par 230.
In the Girls Division, Bolden carded an opening round of 1-under-par 71, before carding a 1-over-par 73 second round. Her first two rounds included bogey-free back nines. Bolden carded a 4-over-par 76 during the final round to move her tournament total to 4-over-par 220. This is Bolden’s second MAJGT victory; her first came in 2017 at the Sanctuary Open.
Coming in runner-up was Arushi Singh (2018) of Naperville, Ill., who carded a 12-over-par 228 tournament total. Rounding out the top three was Natalie Spitzer (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., after she carded a 20-over-par 236 tournament total.
Next the MAJGT heads to Kishwaukee CC for the Northern Illinois Classic on June 18-19.
