MUNDELEIN, Ill. – The Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s rescheduled North Shore Open concluded Sunday after weather caused this event to be shortened. Aaron Chong (2020) of Glenview, Ill., took top honors in the Boys Division after finishing two-strokes ahead of the runner-ups. In the Girls Division, Shannyn Vogler (2022) of Sherrard, Ill., finished atop the leaderboard after carding an even-par 72.
The North Shore Open was a Stroke Play competition which was a 27 hole event for the Boys Division and a 18 hole event for the Girls Division. The Boys Division played the par 72 Countryside Prairie Course from 6,756 yards, while the Girls Division played the course from 6,084 yards. The field was comprised of 85 junior golfers ages 12-18 from Illinois and Wisconsin.
The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest ages 12-18 and is nationally recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and American Junior Golf Association with all of its events providing national exposure.
In the Boys Division, Chong carded a 4-under-par 104 tournament total, which included a 6-under-par 66 opening round. His first round included eight birdies, while his second round included one eagle and one birdie. This was Chong’s first MAJGT victory, his best finish prior came earlier this year at the Championship at Ruffled Feathers where he finished third.
Coming in runner-up were Peter Crowe (2022) of Lake Forest, Ill., and Mark Noonan (2019) of Vernon Hills, Ill., who each carded a 2-under-par 106 tournament total. In fourth place was Luke Tedford (2021) of Lake Forest, Ill., who finished the tournament with a 1-under-par 107 total. Rounding out the top five, who each carded an even-par tournament total, were Patrick Mattar (2019) of Chicago, Ryan Banas (2023) of Winnetka, Ill., Samuel Mortell (2021) of Chicago, and Kevin O’Regan (2021) of Northbrook, Ill.
In the Girls Division, Vogler carded two birdies and 14 pars, giving her an even-par tournament total. This was Vogler’s first MAJGT victory, her best finish came earlier this year at the Orchard Valley Open where she finished fourth.
Coming in second place was Lizzie Anderson (2022) of Lockport, Ill., who carded a 1-over-par 73 tournament total. Rounding out the top three was Sarah Arnold (2019) of St. Charles, Ill., who carded a 2-over-par 72 tournament total.
