BARRINGTON, Ill. – The first round of the 50th Illinois State Junior Amateur concluded Tuesday at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, Ill., with Danny Fisher (2019) of Lake Forest, Ill., atop the leaderboard with a 1-under-par 70.

The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA), also known as the Slovitt Cup, is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. The field, made up of male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the first round on the par 71 course from 6900 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

Fisher, who has signed with Miami University, is appearing in his fourth ISJA with his best finish being in 2018 where he finished tied ninth.

Currently in a tie for second, with a 1-over-par 72 are Mac McClear (2019) of Hinsdale, Ill., Bradley Goldstein (2019) of Highland Park, Ill., and Anthony Ruthey (2019) of Port Byron, Ill. Garrett Tighe (2019) of Algonquin, Ill., and Jack Bartuch (2020) of Clarendon Hills, Ill., are tied for fifth after each carding a 2-over-par 73. In seventh are Zachary Mulhearn (2021) of Wheaton, Ill., and Dori Lee (2022) of Buffalo Grove, Ill., who finished the first round with a 3-over-par 74.

Sean Markham (2020) of Barrington, Ill., and Adam Bornstein (2020) of Deerfield, Ill., currently round out the top ten after finish the round with a 4-over-par 75 total.

The second round of the 50th ISJA is set to begin Wednesday, June 26, at 7:30 a.m. off of Nos. 1 and 10 at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
