BARRINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Junior Golf Association’s 54th  Illinois State Junior Amateur Championship began Tuesday, June 27. Grant Roscich (2024) of Glen Ellyn, Ill. is looking to defend his title after winning the 53rd Illinois State Junior Amateur. He currently has the lead after carding a 3-under-par 68 during the first round.

The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA), also known as the Slovitt Cup, is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. The field, made up of male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the first round on the par 71 course from 6900 yards.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.

Roscich carded five birdies during the first round.  This is his fifth appearance at the ISJA Championship. He has previously made three of four cuts, finishing T3 in 2021 and winning the event in 2022.

In second with a 1-under-par 70 is Gavin Newkirk (2023) of Batavia, Ill. Tied for third with a score of even-par 71 is: Charlie Davenport (2025) of Clarendon Hills, Ill., and Brady Cross (2027) of Lindenhurst, Ill.. Rounding out the top five with a 1-over-par 72 is: Robby O’Regan (2023) of Northbrook, Ill.; Liam Lodding (2026) of Huntley, Ill.; Alex Lee (2026) of Northbrook, Ill.; and Nico Haber (2025) of Arlington Heights, Ill.

The second round of the 54th ISJA is set to begin Wednesday, June 28, at 7:30 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10 at Makray Memorial Golf Club.
