Barrington, Ill. – A champion has been named at the Illinois Junior Golf Association’s 53rd Illinois State Junior Amateur. Grant Roscich (2024) of Glen Ellyn, Ill., earned champion honors after carding a 1-over-par 72 in the final round.
The Illinois State Junior Amateur (ISJA), also known as the Slovitt Cup, is a 54 hole, Stroke Play event, with a cut after 36 holes to the low 50 and ties. Fifty-one players made the cut this year at 16-over-par or better. The field, made up of male junior golfers from Illinois ages 12-18, played the final round on the par 71 course from 6900 yards.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members ages 8-18, conducting educational clinics and events, and serving as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.
Roscich started the day with a six-shot lead. A 1-over-par front nine score of 36 gave him a nine-shot buffer at the turn, which increased to eleven shots by the end of the day. Roscich got up-and-down on the par-5 18th to make birdie on his final hole of the day. He finished the tournament with a 3-under-par total, carding rounds of even-par 71, 4-under-par 67, and 1-over-par 72. This was his fourth appearance as the ISJA tournament, with his prior best finish coming in 2021 when he finished T3.
Coming in runner-up was Ryan Banas (2023) of Winnetka, Ill., with a tournament total of 8-over-par 221. In third was John Creamean (2024) of Winnetka, Ill. at 9-over-par 221.
